Like his more famous colleague, Jan Tschichold, Georg Trump (1896-1985) started off as part of the modern movement to become more of a classicist in his older age. And like Tschichold he designed a few typefaces; City released in 1931 being one of the most famous. This has to be one of my favourite specimens. Its designed in the more mature modernist style that Trump, Tschichold and Futura designer, Paul Renner were preaching in Munich at the Meisterschule. Its got a great piece of ringbinding (why can’t we get this anymore?) and inside are lots of lovely applications. I found it a few years back in a small bookshop by the Rhine, the bookseller couldn’t quite understand my excitement
