Glass gilding has long been considered the pinnacle of the sign painter’s craft. Impossibly thin pieces of gold leaf applied to storefront windows, and the like, constituted the first “solar-powered” illuminated signs. John Downer and Leonard Otillio, two journeymen who continue to ply the trade, gave nifty souvenirs like this to the folks who attended their workshop during TypeCon 2003.
