Photo-Lettering’s endless cavalcade of logos would make any modern branding “expert” cringe. One marque that stood the test of time, however, was Alex Steinweiss’s bowtie design that first saw the light of day in his cover design for this 1950 Photo-Lettering catalog.
Well known in graphic design circles as the father of the modern album cover, Steinweiss was a frequent Photo-Lettering customer.
He and Ed Rondthaler became lifelong friends, and Steinweiss gave the Photo-Lettering founder one last iteration of the bowtie logo for his hundredth birthday.
