Celebrate the obscurity of Arnold the Burbank spokesman with this magically simple character study gloriously rendered as never before in the muted tones of our signature serigraphic style.

In a world where social differences and lack of understanding often result in cultural, political and military clashes, it was refreshing to research, comprehend and illustrate the universal language of love in twelve colloquially-correct Ken Barber compositions.

Ken Barber sez: The House Hearts project initially seemed simple and straightforward, but we found that conveying the significance of love while keeping it playful and accessible was a challenge. Selecting a dozen contrasting yet complimentary styles while adapting the lettering to fit in the unaccommodating heart shape added another hurdle. The biggest test was drawing in 12 languages and eight different writing systems. Thankfully a number of colleagues and native speakers offered a helping hand with invaluable insight.

Love is an emotion and not a product or holiday, but we’re not above capitalizing on it so we created a new series of prints and two sets of wooden blocks.

Special thanks to this international community of graphic artists, letterers and type designers who made sure we weren’t drawing any cuss words or culturally-specific visual insults: Adi Stern (Hebrew); Christoffer Leka (Swedish); Sonja and Rob Keller (German); Tarek Atrissi (Arabic); Gerry Leonidas (Greek); Ilya Ruderman (Russian); Fiona Ross, Advaita van Dijk and David Buchta (Bengali); Kunihiko Okano and Yayoi Cannon (Japanese)

This olive is anything but drab with our specially-formulated radar-reflecting stealth black matte hand-pulled inks.

You won’t need a Predator drone high-definition camera to see the deliciously thick air-dried matteness of David Dodde’s hand-pulled silver metallic squeegee strokes.

With its 105 different styles, the United Collection gets the job done with military precision.

Mrs. Ryuko Kida, Editor in Chief of ELLE Decor Japan, was kind enough to include me in their CREATORS’ HOMES issue along with Jasper Morrison and Jonathan Adler.
ELLE shared elements from our home that inspire or have inspired House Industries design projects; interior spaces, furnishings, House Ind. prototypes, collections, pugs and tiki mugs. Steph and I got to ham-it-up (a rubbed pork tenderloin was served that day) as we discussed the blurry line between our home, work and family life. Below are a few of the spreads:

As we may have mentioned in our hyperbolic product copy, our 33 pattern luggage fabric is pretty tough. Here’s our original post about the Baileyworks 33 prototype messenger bag from November 2010. Here the same bag about 750 bicycle commutes to the studio and countless please place your personal items under the seat front of you later:

Here’s a post from 2007 featuring, among other things, a 33 pattern fabric motorcycle seat. Here’s the same seat five years and 50,000 miles later:
