Martijn Rijven over at BOLT Graphics in Amsterdam is another one of our PLINC beta testers. He recently featured Hasler Circus —for the “Jarvis Cocker” header— on a recent poster project. Dank je wel!

Kaisa Leka, half of the Finnish contingent of the House Factory Team, was recently pictured, along with fellow rider Christoffer Leka, in an issue of MeidänSuomi sporting a prototype House jersey. The pair have the thankless task of rigorously testing House gear, in often unforgiving conditions, during their frequent trans-European tours. Get your House Factory Team gear here.

I had originally posted this image thinking that it was from a Photo-Lettering competitor. However, I came across the original the other day and noticed that it is indeed from a specimen book published by Typographic Service, a division of Electrographic Corporation (the parent company who owned PLINC). In fact, it was Amos Bethke and C.E. Ruckstuhl of Typographic Service who were instrumental in Electrographic opening the company’s new subsidiary, aptly called Photo-Lettering, Inc. While the TS monogram remains reminiscent of Benguiat’s work, you can take a gander at some certified Ed goodness here.

Thanks to Florian Hardwig for this colorful specimen of Kurrentschrift from a 1911 Swiss primer.
Makes reading Fraktur seem easy.

I suppose at some point all those film-lettering joints from back in the day just started running out of names.

This weekend, I’ll be giving a lecture and conducting a workshop at CSU as part of the university’s Arts Week. Swing by and learn about the stylistic connection between late nineteenth century “rustic” engraving and the lettering of contemporary LA black metal band logos.
